proceed to Rabat, the capital city of Morocco, for a brief visit due to the long drive ahead.
The first night’s accommodation will be in Chefchaouen, also known as the Blue city, nestled in the Rif Mountains.
After breakfast, you have the morning to freely explore the enchanting blue medina of Chefchaouen, with its narrow streets, blue painted doors, and artisan workshops where woven blankets are crafted. Chefchaouen is a photographer’s paradise. After lunch, we continue our
journey and drive through lush woodlands, following a river. A stop at the 2nd-century archaeological site of Volubilis allows us to marvel at its triumphal arch, mosaics, and historical artifacts. We then proceed to the medieval medina of Fes, where you will stay in a
In the morning, your local Fes guide will meet you at your riad and provide a program for the day. The guided tour includes visits to significant landmarks, panoramic viewpoints, artisan workshops, and the vibrant souks of the ancient medina. Each neighborhood in Fes
traditionally had a mosque, fountain, bakery, hammam, and school, and you can visit some remarkably well-preserved examples. The artisan visits offer fascinating insights into traditional craftsmanship, including the renowned leather goods of Morocco, with a visit to
the tanneries. In the late afternoon, you return to your riad.
After breakfast, we depart Fes and embark on our journey towards the Sahara Desert. Our first stop is the great cedar forests, home to Barbary Monkeys, offering an opportunity to observe these indigenous wild animals. This region is known as Little Switzerland, with its
alpine architecture and picturesque landscapes, particularly during winter with a dusting of snow. As we travel south, the scenery transitions from forests to mountains, palm groves, and gorges, always accompanied by the flowing river. Erfoud, known for its mineral and fossil riches, provides a chance to explore museums and workshops showcasing these finds transformed into beautiful and functional items. As we approach Merzouga, the signs of the desert become more apparent, with the outline of dunes coming into view. You will spend the night in a traditional hotel here.
Today offers an exciting desert adventure. We will use 4×4 vehicles for an off-road experience, uncovering hidden oases and possibly encountering nomads along the way. Enjoy a captivating Gnawa music performance by the Sudanese descendants of slaves residing in
the village of Khamlia. We will also visit Rissani, known for its colorful souk, and savor the local delicacy called Medfouna, a Berber Pizza. In the afternoon, it’s time to prepare for the night in the desert. Camels will carry you across the dunes as you witness a mesmerizing
sunset, arriving at your nomadic camp for dinner. Under the starry sky, you can gather around the campfire while locals play music and sing songs.
If you wish to witness the sunrise over the dunes, the camp team can wake you up. It’s a beautiful moment as the new dawn unfolds. You will return to the hotel on camelback and enjoy breakfast. Showers are available if you’d like to freshen up. We then depart and
continue our tour, visiting remarkable natural wonders. Todra Gorge, a 300-meter gorge carved by the river, offers a magical setting and is a favorite destination for international rock climbers seeking new challenges. We travel along the Dades Valley, ascending into the
gorge, where we spend the night in a local guesthouse.
After breakfast, we set off to see the unique rock formations known as the “fat monkey fingers.” This region is also abundant in kasbahs, some still inhabited while others have fallen into decline. Returning to the valley below, you will notice numerous kasbahs hidden among
fields of fruits and crops. We travel through the Rose Valley, where the fields are adorned with pretty pink roses, harvested and processed into beauty and culinary products. As we reach the end of the valley, the landscape transitions again, with vast desert-like scenery
surrounding us, offering distant views of snow-covered peaks. Here, the largest solar plant is located to your right. We pass through the palm grove of Koura and the cinema capital of Ouarzazate. A detour leads us to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Benhaddou, fortified town still inhabited by a few Berber families. We will have lunch and you can stroll through the streets of the Ksar. Continuing our journey, we cross the High Atlas Mountains and descend to the plains of Marrakech, where you will spend the night in a traditional riad in
the ancient medina, which dates back a thousand years.
After breakfast, your city guide will join you for a walking tour of the vibrant, historic medina of Marrakech. The city is filled with palaces, museums, Quranic schools, mosques, bakeries, fountains, hammams, gardens, souks, and the famous Jemaa el Fna square. There is
plenty to see and explore. In the afternoon, you have free time to further explore the city and indulge in some shopping.
Today, we embark on a day trip to the coastal medina of Essaouira, renowned for its expansive beach and excellent surfing waves. Shopping in Essaouira is relaxed and unhurried. Take a leisurely stroll through the streets, admire locally made crafts, visit art
galleries, wander along the promenade, and explore the fishing port. If you enjoy seafood, the restaurants offer a variety of fresh fish that can be cooked to order. Essaouira is also known for its music scene, particularly Gnawa music, which was brought by slaves to this port city. The annual world music festival draws an international crowd.
