We will start our day by heading towards Tetouan. Our first stop will be the ancient city, also known as the medina. This UNESCO World Heritage Site has undergone significant restoration, with the participation of the Junta de Andalucia, highlighting its Andalusian
origins. Afterward, we will continue our journey to Chefchaouen, famously known as the blue city. Its mesmerizing medina, with its cobblestone lanes lined with artisan stores, blue and white buildings, and warm and friendly locals, offers countless surprises to be discovered. We will enjoy our accommodation in a riad with breakfast.
Following breakfast, we will travel to Volubilis, home to the remarkably preserved archaeological remnants of a Roman city. Fez, known as the cultural and religious center of Morocco, boasts the sprawling Medina of Fez el-Bali, one of the world’s largest medieval sites. The riad accommodation will provide us with breakfast.
Today, we embark on a fascinating exploration of Fez’s medina, which has retained its timeless charm since the Middle Ages. We will visit various points of interest, including the tanners’ area, the iconic Bab Boujloud blue door, and the magnificent Bou Inania Medersa,
showcasing intricate cedarwood, stucco, and onyx marble decorations. Our itinerary includes visits to the Tijani zaouia, a religious site, and the souk where musical instruments are crafted. We will then explore the Nejjarine Plaza Museum and the cabinetmakers of the souk. The stunning foundouk, located in the plaza, houses the Museum of Wooden Arts and Crafts. Other highlights include the kissaria, known for its gemstones and textiles, as well as the vibrant plazas of Es-Seffarine and d’Ascia. The ancient Palace, displaying Arabo-Andalusian architectural style, and the Morocco Palace with its grandeur will captivate our attention. We will also venture outside the city walls to visit the palace gate, the Jewish quarter, the Borj, and the pottery area.
Our journey continues as we depart from Fez and head towards Midelt, traversing the scenic Middle Atlas highlands and cedar forests. Along the way, we will pass through Ifrane, a picturesque ski resort, and Azrou, renowned for its cedar woodworking craftsmanship. After
crossing the Zad pass (2,178m), we will stop in Midelt for lunch. In the afternoon, we will descend through the palm-fringed Ziz Valley, passing by Erfoud and Errachidia, until we reach the majestic dunes of Erg Chebbi in Merzouga. We will indulge in a delightful dinner and spend the night in a desert motel.
Today, we will embark on a thrilling 4×4 excursion of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Our adventure includes a visit to a local home where we will experience the captivating Gnaoua music originating from Ghana and Sudan. We will explore abandoned mines, encounter nomadic Berber communities, and relax in a serene palm-tree oasis. After returning to Merzouga and enjoying some leisure time, we will ride camels into the heart of the desert. As the sun sets, we will climb a high dune to witness the breathtaking sunset. Our night will be spent in a Berber tent, surrounded by thousands of sparkling stars.
In the morning, we will enjoy a camel ride back to the hotel, followed by breakfast and a refreshing shower. Our journey continues to Rissani, the first imperial city, renowned for its unique market where nomads gather to trade livestock and essentials. We will have the
opportunity to savor the delightful Berber pizza before heading towards Ouarzazate through the picturesque Draa Valley, which boasts the longest river in Morocco. Along the way, we will admire the scenic adobe kasbahs, Berber settlements, and the geological wonders of the Draa Valley. A delicious dinner awaits us at a riad.
After breakfast, we will visit the famous Ait Ben Haddou, a remarkable highlight of our journey. The route from Ouarzazate to Marrakech stretches through the majestic High Atlas mountains, covering approximately 200 miles. As we traverse the Atlas at an elevation of
