Where to go, how many days you need, which itinerary fits you, what the Sahara is really like, when to travel and what a private tour includes — explained by a Morocco-based team that plans these routes every week.
This page is a complete guide to Morocco tours in 2027. If you are planning a trip to Morocco next year, it will help you decide where to go, how long to stay, and which private itinerary matches your travel style — whether that is a short Marrakech desert tour to the Sahara, a 7-day Morocco tour through the highlights, or a 14- or 15-day grand tour from Casablanca to Chefchaouen, Fes, Merzouga and Marrakech.
We are Rachid Morocco Tours, a Morocco-based company that organizes private, tailor-made tours with a driver, starting from Marrakech, Casablanca, Fes, Tangier, Agadir and other cities. Everything below comes from the practical side of running these trips: real driving times, how desert camps work in winter, which routes suit families and how to pace an itinerary so you enjoy it instead of spending it in the car.

Morocco Tours 2027 Quick Facts
Why Choose Morocco Tours in 2027?
Yes. Morocco combines imperial cities, the Atlas Mountains, the Sahara Desert and the Atlantic coast in one country, most of it reachable by road within a week or two. It is a short flight from Europe, has well-developed tourism infrastructure, and continues to invest in roads, airports and rail ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which it co-hosts with Spain and Portugal.
What makes Morocco special for a tour is the variety within short distances. In a single day on the road from Marrakech you cross a mountain pass above 2,200 metres, walk through a fortified earthen village, and arrive in a green palm valley — and two days later you are watching sunset over the dunes of Erg Chebbi. Few countries give you that range without internal flights.
For 2027 specifically, a few practical points are worth knowing:
- Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around early February (exact dates depend on the moon sighting). Touring is still very possible, but some restaurants close during the day and the rhythm of towns changes. We adapt itineraries accordingly.
- Spring and autumn are the busiest touring seasons, so popular riads in Fes and Marrakech and the best desert camps in Merzouga fill early.
- Christmas and New Year in the Sahara are in high demand — if you want a desert New Year, plan months in advance.
For general background on the country's history, geography and culture, the Morocco page on Wikipedia is a good starting point. This guide focuses on the practical, tour-planning layer.
What Are the Best Morocco Tours for 2027?
For a first visit, 10 to 14 days is a practical length for experiencing several major regions of Morocco without trying to see everything in a few days. Shorter trips can focus on Marrakech and the Sahara, while longer itineraries can add northern Morocco, Fes, Chefchaouen, Essaouira and other destinations.
Below are the tours our travelers choose most often. Each one is private, so the day-by-day plan can be adjusted — these are examples, not fixed packages.
3-Day Morocco Desert Tour from Marrakech
Best for: travelers based in Marrakech who want to see the real Sahara with one night in the dunes and have only three days.
This is the shortest realistic way to reach Erg Chebbi from Marrakech. It is rewarding, but be honest with yourself: the first and last days involve long drives. Merzouga is roughly 550 km from Marrakech by road, and the mountain crossing plus photo stops make each travel day long. If you enjoy road landscapes, it is a beautiful journey; if long drives tire you, consider four or five days.

4-Day Morocco Desert Tour
Best for: travelers who want the Sahara without rushing and would like to see the Todra Gorge properly.
The extra day makes a noticeable difference. The return is split, so you are not doing Merzouga to Marrakech in one push, and you gain time for a walk in the Todra Gorge or the Dades "Monkey Fingers" rock formations. This is the length we recommend most often for a first desert trip from Marrakech.

5-Day Morocco Desert Tour
Best for: couples, photographers and families who want two nights around the dunes or a relaxed pace.
Five days allows a full day in Merzouga: a 4x4 excursion around the dunes, a visit to Khamlia village for Gnawa music, a stop with a nomadic family and time to rest at the camp. It feels like a holiday rather than a transfer.

15-Day Morocco Grand Tour
Best for: travelers who want to see almost everything without feeling rushed — the Morocco 2 week itinerary plus breathing room.
The 15-day version takes the 14-day route and adds a rest day where you need it most — usually an extra night in Marrakech, the Agafay Desert or the High Atlas near Imlil. On long tours, one day with no driving is often the day travelers remember as their favorite.
Best Places to Visit on a Morocco Tour
The essential places for a first Morocco tour are Marrakech, Fes, Chefchaouen, the Sahara at Merzouga, Ait Ben Haddou and the Dades and Todra valleys. With more time, add Rabat, Casablanca, Tangier and the coastal town of Essaouira.
Marrakech
The main gateway for most Morocco tours. The medina centers on Jemaa el-Fna square, which changes completely from day to evening when the food stalls and storytellers arrive. Nearby are the Koutoubia Mosque, El Badi Palace, the Majorelle Garden and the Menara gardens.
Stay in a riad inside the medina for atmosphere, or a hotel in Hivernage or the Palmeraie for space and pools. Marrakech is also the starting point for Sahara tours, High Atlas day trips and the Agafay Desert, a stony desert about an hour from the city.
Casablanca
Morocco's largest city and main international airport. The highlight is the Hassan II Mosque, built on the ocean edge and one of the few mosques in Morocco that non-Muslim visitors can enter on a guided visit. Casablanca is a practical start or end point for a loop around the country.
Fes
Fes el-Bali is one of the largest car-free medinas in the world and a UNESCO site. Expect narrow lanes, the Chouara tannery, the Bou Inania madrasa and craft workshops. We always recommend a local guide for your first day — not for security, but because it is very easy to get lost and miss the best places.
Chefchaouen
The blue town of the Rif Mountains. It is calm, photogenic and good for walking. Early morning, before day-trippers arrive, is the best time for photos. One night here is ideal; a quick stop is possible but feels rushed.
Rabat
Morocco's capital is relaxed and green, with the Kasbah of the Udayas above the ocean, the Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V. It fits naturally between Casablanca and Chefchaouen or Fes.
Tangier
At the meeting point of the Atlantic and Mediterranean, Tangier suits travelers arriving from Spain. Visit the kasbah, Cap Spartel and the Hercules Caves, then continue to Chefchaouen.
Merzouga and the Sahara Desert
Merzouga sits at the edge of Erg Chebbi, Morocco's most famous dune field, with dunes rising well over 100 metres. This is where you ride camels at sunset, sleep in a desert camp and wake up for sunrise. Read the full Sahara section below.
Ait Ben Haddou
A UNESCO-listed fortified village (ksar) of earthen buildings, used in many films. Climbing to the top granary gives a wide view of the valley. It is usually a stop on the first day from Marrakech toward the desert.
Dades Valley
Known for its kasbahs, rose fields near Kelaat M'Gouna and the rounded "Monkey Fingers" rock formations. The winding road up the gorge is a highlight in itself. A common overnight stop between Marrakech and Merzouga.
Todra Gorge
A narrow canyon near Tinghir with walls reaching around 300 metres. The best way to experience it is a short walk along the river at the narrowest point, then through the palm groves outside Tinghir.
Essaouira
A windy Atlantic port town with a UNESCO-listed medina, ramparts, a working fishing harbor and a relaxed atmosphere. About three hours from Marrakech, it is an ideal way to end a desert tour with sea air and fresh fish.
Morocco Sahara Desert Tours 2027
Yes. For most travelers, the night in the Sahara is the highlight of their Morocco tour: sunset from the dunes, dinner under the stars, music around the fire and silence you rarely experience elsewhere. The key is choosing enough days so the journey is enjoyable, and the right camp for the season.
Morocco's main Sahara destination for tours is Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi dunes, in the southeast near the Algerian border. The wider Errachidia–Midelt–Merzouga area is a region that combines Atlas mountain landscapes with the desert — and that is exactly what the journey feels like. From Fes you descend through cedar forests and the Ziz Valley palm groves; from Marrakech you cross the High Atlas and follow the "road of a thousand kasbahs."
What a Sahara Night Usually Looks Like
You reach Merzouga, leave large luggage in the vehicle and take a small overnight bag.
Around one to one and a half hours into the dunes, depending on the camp's location.
Climbing the dune on foot is the tiring part — and the most rewarding.
Usually soup, tagine and fruit, served in the camp's dining tent.
Drums around the fire, then some of the clearest night skies you will ever see.
Early wake-up to watch the light move across the dunes, then breakfast.
Experiences Around Merzouga
- 4x4 desert excursions around Erg Chebbi, visiting the Black Desert (a flat stony landscape of dark rock), old mining areas and small oases.
- Khamlia village, home to a Gnawa community known for its music, rooted in West African traditions.
- Visiting nomadic families who still live around the desert, for tea and a view of daily life.
- Sandboarding down the dunes — easy to try, and fun for children and adults.
- Quad biking or buggies for travelers who want some adrenaline (optional, paid locally).
Choosing Your Desert Camp
Desert camps range from simple tents with shared facilities to luxury camps with private tents, ensuite bathrooms, proper beds and, in winter, heating. The difference matters more than people expect.
For travelers visiting Merzouga between December and February, we recommend confirming the type of desert accommodation before booking. Nights can be close to freezing. Luxury camps with private ensuite bathrooms and heating make a significant difference on winter nights — especially for families and older travelers.
When planning a private Sahara tour, we consider driving time as carefully as the destinations. A route that looks short on a map can involve many hours because of mountain roads, villages and photo stops. From Marrakech, the Tizi n'Tichka pass (about 2,260 m) is spectacular but slow. That is why we usually recommend at least 4 days for Merzouga from Marrakech, and why the Fes–Merzouga route is shorter.
Only have one day in Marrakech? The Agafay Desert offers a desert atmosphere — camel rides, sunset dinners and private events — without the long drive. It is a stony desert rather than sand dunes, so it is a different experience from Merzouga, but many travelers love it.
Private Morocco Tours vs Group Tours
Group tours follow a fixed date, route and schedule with other travelers. Private tours are organized for your party only. Both have their place, but the difference in experience is real.
| Feature | Private tour | Group / shared tour |
|---|---|---|
| Vehicle | Only your group | Shared minibus |
| Start date | Any day you choose | Fixed departure dates |
| Route & stops | Adapted to you, stop when you want | Set schedule |
| Accommodation | You choose the level | Pre-selected, usually standard |
| Pace | Flexible (children, photography, rest) | Same for everyone |
| Best for | Couples, families, friends, special occasions | Solo budget travelers |
Rachid Morocco Tours specializes in Morocco private tours. In practice, the biggest advantage is flexibility: if you fall in love with Chefchaouen, you can stay longer; if a child is tired, you can stop; if you want to leave early to catch the light at Ait Ben Haddou, you can.
Best Morocco Itinerary for 2027
The best itinerary for most first-time visitors is a loop that combines the imperial cities (Rabat, Fes, Marrakech), Chefchaouen, the Sahara at Merzouga and the Dades Valley and Ait Ben Haddou. Starting in Casablanca and ending in Marrakech (or the reverse) avoids backtracking and fits well in 10 to 14 days.
Recommended Itineraries by Duration
These are example routes to help you compare — not fixed packages. Every private tour can be changed.
| Duration | Example route |
|---|---|
| 3 Days | Marrakech → Ait Ben Haddou → Dades → Merzouga → Marrakech |
| 5 Days | Marrakech → Dades → Merzouga (2 nights) → Marrakech |
| 7 Days | Marrakech → Sahara → Fes (or Casablanca → Fes → Sahara → Marrakech) |
| 10 Days | Casablanca → Rabat → Chefchaouen → Fes → Sahara → Marrakech |
| 14 Days | Casablanca → Rabat → Tangier → Chefchaouen → Fes → Sahara → Marrakech → Essaouira |
| 15+ Days | Northern Morocco + Imperial Cities + Sahara + Marrakech + coast, with rest days |
Should I Visit Marrakech and Merzouga on the Same Trip?
Yes — this is the most popular combination in Morocco. Marrakech gives you the city, souks and riads; Merzouga gives you the dunes and a desert camp night. Because the road between them is long, allow at least three days for the desert part, or ideally four to five, and at least two nights in Marrakech itself.
How Many Days Do You Need in Morocco?
A 7-day trip can cover several major highlights, while 10–14 days allows travelers to combine major cities, the Sahara Desert and additional destinations at a more comfortable pace. Longer trips can include northern Morocco, Essaouira or additional mountain and desert experiences.
- 3–5 days: Marrakech + Sahara, or Fes + Sahara.
- 7 days: Marrakech, Sahara and Fes — good, but with several driving days.
- 10 days: the "classic Morocco" route with time to breathe.
- 14–15 days: north, imperial cities, desert and coast with rest days.
A common mistake is trying to include Chefchaouen, Fes, the Sahara, Marrakech and Essaouira in seven days. It is possible on paper, but you spend most of the trip in the car. We would rather design a slightly smaller route that you actually enjoy.
Best Time to Take a Morocco Tour in 2027
There is no single best month. Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) usually give the most comfortable conditions for combining cities, mountains and the desert. Winter is good for cities and clear desert days but has cold nights, and summer is hot inland but pleasant on the coast.
🌸 Spring (Mar–May)
- Good for cities, mountains and desert
- Green valleys; roses in the Dades area around May
- Popular season — book riads and camps early
☀️ Summer (Jun–Aug)
- Hot inland — Marrakech and the desert often go well above 35°C
- Coastal destinations such as Essaouira stay cooler
- Early starts, midday rest; desert visits focus on sunset and sunrise
🍂 Autumn (Sep–Nov)
- Generally pleasant touring conditions
- Good for desert trips as the heat drops
- Date harvest in the southern oases
❄️ Winter (Dec–Feb)
- Sunny days, cool evenings in the cities
- Snow possible on the High Atlas passes
- Cold Sahara nights — choose a heated camp with private bathroom
In winter, heavy snow can occasionally slow traffic on the Tizi n'Tichka pass. On private tours we follow road conditions each day and can adjust the timing or route if needed.
Morocco Tours From Marrakech
Marrakech is the most popular start for Morocco tours and the natural base for a Marrakech desert tour. From here you can do:
- Marrakech city tours
- Sahara tours to Merzouga
- Agafay Desert
- Ait Ben Haddou
- Dades Valley
- Atlas Mountains
- Essaouira
Popular options: 3-day desert tour, 4-day desert tour, 5-day desert tour, 6-day desert tour and Agafay Desert private events.
Morocco Tours From Casablanca
Casablanca is the main long-haul arrival airport, which makes it ideal for a full loop: Casablanca → Rabat → Chefchaouen → Fes → Merzouga → Marrakech. Casablanca to Marrakech is about three hours by road, so you can also end in Casablanca for your flight home.

Morocco Tours From Fes
Fes is the closest imperial city to the Sahara. The route south crosses the Middle Atlas via Ifrane and its cedar forests, Midelt, and the Ziz Valley with its long palm oasis, reaching Merzouga in one long day. From there, tours often continue to Todra, Dades and Marrakech.

Family Morocco Tours 2027
Morocco is a very welcoming country for children, and a private tour removes most of the stress of traveling as a family. What we adapt for a Morocco family tour:
- Shorter driving days — we break long routes with extra nights, for example sleeping in the Dades Valley both ways.
- Family rooms or connecting rooms in riads and hotels. Some traditional riads have steep stairs and open courtyards, so for small children a hotel with a garden and pool can be more practical.
- Desert camps with private bathrooms — especially important with children at night.
- Kid-friendly activities: short camel rides, sandboarding, pottery and cooking workshops, visits to a nomad family, a swimming pool afternoon.
- Car seats can be arranged when requested in advance.
Luxury Morocco Tours 2027
A Morocco luxury tour is less about gold taps and more about comfort in the right places: a beautiful riad in the medina, a spacious vehicle, an experienced driver, private guides and a desert camp with real beds and a private bathroom.
- Boutique riads and five-star hotels in Marrakech, Fes and Casablanca
- Luxury Sahara camps with ensuite tents and winter heating
- Private licensed city guides in Fes and Marrakech
- Private dinners, sunset experiences and events in the Agafay Desert
- Slower pacing with fewer hours on the road each day
Riads are traditional houses built around a courtyard, usually inside the medina — atmospheric, intimate and full of character, but cars cannot reach the door, so luggage is carried the last few minutes. Hotels offer more space, larger pools and direct car access. Many travelers enjoy a mix of both.

How Much Does a Private Morocco Tour Cost?
There is no honest single price for a private Morocco tour, because the cost depends on how many people travel, when, for how long and in what style. The most accurate way to know is a personalized quotation based on your dates and wishes.
The main factors that change the price are:
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Number of travelers | Vehicle and driver costs are shared, so the price per person usually drops as the group grows. |
| Travel dates & season | Spring, autumn and holidays are in higher demand. |
| Itinerary length | More days means more nights, fuel and driver time. |
| Accommodation level | Guesthouses, mid-range riads, boutique riads or five-star hotels. |
| Desert camp type | Standard camp or luxury camp with private ensuite tents. |
| Vehicle | Size and type depend on group size and comfort. |
| Guides & activities | Local guides, 4x4 excursions, workshops, special dinners. |
Contact Rachid Morocco Tours with your dates, number of travelers and preferred itinerary for a personalized quotation. We prefer giving you a real, detailed price than a low "from" number that changes later.
How to Choose the Right Morocco Tour
- Start from your days. Under 5 days: focus on Marrakech and the Sahara. 7 days: add Fes. 10+ days: add the north.
- Check your flights. Arriving in Casablanca and leaving from Marrakech avoids backtracking.
- Decide how much driving you accept. If long drives tire you, choose more days or a smaller route.
- Choose your comfort level for riads, hotels and desert camp.
- Consider the season, especially for the desert in winter or summer.
- List your must-sees — food, photography, hiking, crafts, history — and we build around them.

Frequently Asked Questions About Morocco Tours 2027
What are the best Morocco tours for 2027?
The best Morocco tour depends on your time. With 3 to 5 days, a Marrakech to Merzouga Sahara tour via Ait Ben Haddou and the Dades Valley is the most popular choice. With 7 days you can add Fes. With 10 to 15 days you can combine Casablanca, Rabat, Chefchaouen, Fes, the Sahara and Marrakech at a comfortable pace.
How many days should I spend in Morocco?
For a first visit, 10 to 14 days is a practical length to see several regions without rushing. Seven days covers Marrakech, the Sahara and Fes. Three to five days is enough for Marrakech and a Sahara desert trip. Longer trips can add northern Morocco, Essaouira or extra desert nights.
What is the best itinerary for a first trip to Morocco?
A classic first-time route is Casablanca, Rabat, Chefchaouen, Fes, Merzouga in the Sahara, the Dades Valley, Ait Ben Haddou and Marrakech. It combines imperial cities, the blue city, mountain valleys and the desert, and it can be adapted to 10, 12 or 14 days.
Are Morocco tours private or group tours?
Both exist. Rachid Morocco Tours focuses on private tours, meaning the vehicle, driver and itinerary are for your group only. You choose the start date, the pace, the stops and the accommodation level, rather than following a fixed group schedule.
Can I customize my Morocco tour?
Yes. On a private tour you can change the start and end city, add or remove nights, reduce driving hours, add more desert time, choose riads, hotels or luxury camps, add local guides, family-friendly activities or a coastal extension such as Essaouira.
How much does a private Morocco tour cost?
The price of a private Morocco tour depends on the number of travelers, travel dates, season, trip length, accommodation level, desert camp type, vehicle, guides and activities. The most accurate way to know is to request a personalized quotation with your dates, group size and preferred itinerary.
Can I visit the Sahara Desert during a short Morocco trip?
Yes. A 3-day tour from Marrakech reaches the Erg Chebbi dunes at Merzouga with one night in a desert camp. Because the drive is long, 4 or 5 days gives a more relaxed pace with extra stops in the Dades Valley, Todra Gorge or a second desert night.
What is the best starting city for a Morocco tour?
Marrakech is the most common starting city, especially for Sahara tours. Casablanca suits travelers arriving on long-haul flights and wanting a loop around the country. Fes is ideal for a shorter route to Merzouga. Tangier works well for travelers arriving from Spain.
Is Marrakech a good starting point for a Sahara tour?
Yes. Marrakech is the most popular starting point for Sahara tours. The route crosses the High Atlas via the Tizi n'Tichka pass and passes Ait Ben Haddou, Ouarzazate and the Dades Valley before Merzouga. Travelers who only want a short desert experience can also visit the Agafay Desert, about an hour from Marrakech.
Can families take private Morocco tours?
Yes. Private tours work very well for families because the pace, stops and driving time can be adapted to children. Families can choose family rooms or connecting rooms, shorter driving days, camel rides adapted to children and comfortable desert camps with private bathrooms.
What is included in a private Morocco tour?
A private Morocco tour typically includes a private air-conditioned vehicle, an English-speaking driver, fuel, accommodation with breakfast, selected dinners and a Sahara camp night, depending on the itinerary. Lunches, drinks, entrance fees, tips and travel insurance are usually not included. Your written quotation confirms the exact inclusions.
How far in advance should I book a Morocco tour for 2027?
For spring, autumn and holiday periods such as Christmas and New Year, booking three to six months ahead is advisable, as popular riads and luxury desert camps fill up. For quieter months, a few weeks can be enough, but earlier planning gives more choice.
