Erg Chebbi Desert Safari 5 Day from Marrakech: Introduction

If you want to see the real Morocco without rushing, the Erg Chebbi desert safari 5 day from Marrakech is one of the best ways to do it. In five days you cross the High Atlas by the Tizi n'Tichka pass, walk through the Rose Valley, sleep in the dramatic Dades Valley, visit the cliffs of Todra Gorge and reach the giant dunes of Merzouga, where the sand rises up to about 150 metres.

Compared with the classic 3-day trip, this 5-day private tour gives you a full day in the desert, a relaxed return through the Draa Valley and a proper visit to the UNESCO kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. You travel with your own driver and a comfortable vehicle, you choose your photo stops and you decide the pace. It is ideal for couples, families and small groups who want comfort, authentic culture and Sahara sunsets.

Erg Chebbi is the most famous sand sea in Morocco, located near the Algerian border, close to Merzouga and Hassilabied. You can read more about its geography on the Erg Chebbi Wikipedia page. Looking for other options from the red city? Explore all our Marrakech tours.

Best Time for a Private 5-Day Erg Chebbi Desert Safari

The desert can be visited all year, but your experience depends strongly on the season. A private tour lets you change dates easily, so choose the months that suit you best.

Spring • Mar–May

Ideal. About 24–32°C by day, clear skies and the Rose Valley in bloom. Great for photography and hiking.

Autumn • Sep–Nov

Ideal. Warm days, cooler evenings and stable weather. October and November are perfect for camp nights.

Winter • Dec–Feb

Good, but cold. Sunny days of 18–22°C, desert nights close to 0°C and possible snow in the Atlas. Bring warm clothes.

Summer • Jun–Aug

Possible but very hot (40°C+). Ride at sunset, rest at midday and choose a camp with air conditioning.

Our recommendation: for the best balance of weather, light and comfort, book the Erg Chebbi desert safari 5 day in March–May or October–November.
